Litany Introduction

Litany

You are the bread and the knife,
The crystal goblet and the wine...
-Jacques Crickillon

You are the knowledge and the stress,
  the future and the death.
You are the ink on the paper
and the reason I get up early.
You are the dress codes,
and you make everyone want to leave.

However, you aren't the worst thing in the world,
the fresh scent or freedom,
or the epitome of happiness.
And you are certainly not the place I want to be
There is just no way i would want to be with you.

It is possible that you have made me sick, multiple times,
maybe even out me on the brink of tears,
and you are not even close
to being anything beautiful

And a quick look in the windows will show,
that I shouldnt go inside
and that you are just like a jail cell.

It might interest you to know,
people only go to you because they have to, they want a job sometime,
but we would rather be skipping through the grass,
not dragging ourselves around on your tile floors.

I also happen to play sports,
and have dreams of leaving you for good,
yet I have to stay up until the crack of dawn because of you.

You stress me out, thank you very much,
and I wish I didnt have to spend so much time with you during endless weeks...
But don't worry, I graduate soon.
You are still the knowledge and the stress,
You will ALWAYS be the knowledge and the stress,
not to mention the future and-- of course-- the death.

  1. Cassidy, I understand how grueling and stressful school can be, and I'm not surprised you're already feeling burned out. But I hope you can keep in mind everything that is also GOOD about this place. Your teachers here pray for you daily. We care deeply about each one of you and we passionately believe that the information we've committed our lives to teaching matters. Most of your teachers could be doing other jobs, and make a lot more money, and work much fewer hours-- but we don't, because we love our students and we love what we do. You go to a school with a registrar who will shuffle around the entire senior schedule just so you-- Cassidy-- can take Advanced Spanish. That actually happened.

You have a family willing to sacrifice in order to send you to a private school, who enables you to pursue horseback riding all year. You got to spend a month in Spain this summer, you have a supportive boyfriend, and friends who care about you, and you'll probably get to go to college. These are GOOD things Cassidy.

I don't mean to lecture you, even though I know that's how that might come across. I just want you to enjoy your senior year. This will only happen once and it will be a big deal. You can choose to suffer through each day, and hate every minute-- or you can choose to engage, to get into it, to enjoy the people around you, and feel the support of your community when you're stressed.

I hope you can choose the latter. I'll be praying for you and cheering you on.
